What if you could turn your smartphone into a democratic design tool for your home?

Studio is a live Beta project that combines IKEA's life at home knowledge with the latest developments in spatial computing, allowing you to measure, style, and share the spaces in your home. Anyone interested in home design and technology is encouraged to join the test community for a first look and opportunity to help shape the future of the project. People have no shortage of ideas for better homes. What they lack are accessible tools that enable them to visualise and realise these solutions. Studio is an innovative and inspiring application that allows you to interact and experiment with the design of your home.

'What does home technology look like in the future? This is the question we are looking to answer through Studio. It’s our new playground for spatial computing innovation and a place where we can experiment with new features.'

—Fredrik Axén, Digital Manager, Inter IKEA Systems B.V. (Worldwide IKEA franchisor)

Studio makes the most of your smartphone’s LiDAR sensors to gain detailed 3D depth information of your spaces. Its tools allow you to measure individual features like windows or doors, create detailed floor plans of entire rooms or digitally furnish walls, ceilings, seats, tabletops and other surfaces. The application also explores dynamic lighting fixtures – light sources which can be turned on or off in AR for photorealistic virtual scenes. Plus, whether you've found the perfect layout for your furniture or you've simply let your imagination run wild, you can save and share 3D images of your designs with friends and family.

'Rather than guess at what people want, we are inviting them to join the experimental process and share what they find exciting so we can better reflect the needs of those using this technology at home.'

—Fredrik Axén, Digital Manager, Inter IKEA Systems B.V. (Worldwide IKEA franchisor)

The Studio Beta application comes equipped with one guided 'project', a sequence of tools and tasks to help you accomplish a specific design goal. These unique experiences will continue to unfold over time and are made to help you understand what you're doing, why you're doing it and how the results positively impact your well-being. To begin, Studio contains a step-by-step project which empowers you to create a better home workspace for a more productive environment.

'Studio shows that thinking creatively about a space can be easy, satisfying and rewarding. From first-time homeowners remodelling an entire house to those simply refreshing a room, Studio reassures people that home design can be enjoyable and fulfilling.'
